Paul's Club, Paul's Edgewater, Christie's and English Manor
Originally built in 1927 by the English family, the restaurant on English Lane was first known as Paul’s Club. It was sold in 1929 to Paul O’Brien who owned it until 1943. Throughout the years of prohibition, it was a well-known speakeasy, as well as a restaurant. The name was changed to Paul's Edgewater’s, was a well-known restaurant and night club. The township boasted several such nightspot in the 1940 and 1950s. The music and entertainment were regularly broadcast live over radio station WJLK in Asbury Park. Paul's Edgewater’s later became Christies' Restaurant and is now the English Manor.
